2021 Tesla Model S Plaid (Multicoat White)

2021 Tesla Model S Plaid (Multicoat White)

UPDATE: 11/9/21 Finally got the car back after having the rear bumper replaced by Tesla and finished it up, finished pictures added.

Admitted there are a couple small deficiencies but for our second car using this new-to-market material, it turned out pretty damn good. White is also the least forgiving color to color change too. If it were a black or grey, any slightest hint of color would’ve just blended in like a shadow. As such, we did have to “patch” a couple areas, luckily most are in inconspicuous areas. Owner was well aware that he is an early adopter, and having his last car vinyl wrapped, understood the challenges of having a white car underneath.

Just in time for Halloween? Kind of. We had to hold off on finishing this Plaid Model S since the rear bumper is getting replaced by Tesla, so we decided to not touch the adjacent quarters yet just in case.
White is probably the least forgiving color to try to color change, especially when using this pretty new to market, color infused ppf material; which is much less forgiving compared to vinyl, but the benefit of having of self healing (with heat) from scratches and swirls just like the clear stuff, top coated so that it’ll last you significantly longer than the couple years that you might get out of vinyl, and the clarity that looks better than some oem paint jobs.
This was a challenging job, and the owner knows that he’s an early adopter of such material. Most of the car was done custom in one piece with just some minor disassembly, but were some added overlapping seams to the complex panels such as the front bumper, where there normally wouldn’t be with clear film because total coverage is needed, especially with the unforgiving white paint underneath. Still a few things to do and lots of heating before we send it back to the owner to bring back to Tesla, but it won’t look much different than it does in these pictures now. The outdoor photos actually make it look a little darker than it does in person.
We thought it looked a bit funky when we first started, but as we near completion it’s starting to take shape, and contrasts quite nicely with the black trims and kind of works for this caliber of a car. Ppf also coated with CS2 TitaniumSH base coat for added ease of cleaning.
